The water mills mark the identity of the La Rochefoucauld Porte du Périgord area.

The mills of the Bandiat and the Tardoire


The mills are witnesses to the history of rural life and to a wide variety of economic activities: flour mills, oil mills, tanning mills, fulling mills and forges. Today, each one of them lives on in its own way thanks to the passion of their owners or managers.

  • Moulin de la Pierre in Moulins-sur-Tardoire: the last hydraulic stone-sawing mill still in operation after rehabilitation, animations around stone cutting and art
  • Moulin de Vouthon: hydroelectric power station and certified organic production of hazelnut, camelina, walnut and sesame oil and flour
  • Moulin de Chazelles: craft brewery “La Rainette”, organisation of guinguette evenings in July and August
  • Moulin de la Forge in Moulins-sur-Tardoire: production of corn and chestnut flour and artisanal walnut and hazelnut oils
  • Moulin de Chabrot in Montbron: gastronomic restaurant “Le Moulin de la Tardoire” (1 Michelin star)
  • Moulin de Trotte-Renard in Bunzac: production of walnut and hazelnut oil, bread oven in operation during open days
  • Moulin de la Chaume in Saint-Germain de Montbron: production of walnut, hazelnut and sunflower oils and flour for bread-making
  • Moulin de Menet in Montbron: a roller mill, transformed into a flour mill at the end of the 19th century, accessible only on open days.

Open house at the mills

Take advantage of the various open door events to visit our mills:

  • Bandiat-Tardoire Living Mills Days: last weekend in February
  • Journées Patrimoine de Pays et des Moulins : 3rd weekend in June
  • European Heritage Days: 3rd weekend in September

Visits, demonstrations, tastings and sales of products punctuate these open days. So come in, look, listen, smell and sometimes even taste!
